Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer Review
A fragrance-free face lotion with squalane, glycerin, hyaluronic acid and five ceramides on a 19-ingredient list that has not changed since its 2020 launch. A plain moisturizer with no niacinamide or SPF, made for sensitive skin, though stinging and breakouts were the top complaints in the Reddit threads we read.

- 19 ingredients, unchanged since 2020
- Five ceramides, 9th to 13th
- No fragrance, no phenoxyethanol
Is it good? Our verdict
Yes, if you want a plain face moisturizer for sensitive skin. Its 19-ingredient list puts squalane and glycerin right after water, with hyaluronic acid and five ceramides after them, and lists no fragrance, drying alcohol, plant extracts, parabens or phenoxyethanol. The list has not changed since its 2020 launch. It has no niacinamide or SPF, we found no published study of it, and stinging and breakouts were the top complaints in the Reddit threads we read.
- Barrier lipids
- No added fragrance
- No drying alcohol
Pros and cons
Pros
- No fragrance, drying alcohol, plant extracts, parabens or phenoxyethanol on the list
- Ceramides and hyaluronic acid, two of the ingredients the AAD says to look for in a moisturizer
- The same 19 ingredients since its 2020 launch; only “purified water” now reads “water”
- Made for sensitive skin, day or night, and listed by the National Eczema Association
Cons
- A plain moisturizer: no niacinamide, retinoid or SPF
- Five ceramides, but no cholesterol or free fatty acid on the list, the barrier’s other lipids
- We found no published study of it, and stinging and breakouts were the top Reddit complaints
- Some 2026 buyers report thicker batches with the same list
Who it is for
It is the best overall pick in our face moisturizer guide, for its short, fragrance-free list. Here is who it suits:
Good for
- Sensitive skin that reacts to fragrance, essential oils or plant extracts
- Normal, combination or mildly dry skin that wants a plain face lotion
- Under sunscreen or makeup, which Vanicream says it suits
- Skin dried out by acne treatment: the AAD says a daily moisturizer helps
Skip it if
- You want niacinamide, a retinoid or SPF in the same step
- Your skin is very dry: Vanicream’s Moisturizing Cream is richer
- Rosacea that flares with lotions: the AAD suggests a cream
- It has stung or broken you out before
The version we reviewed
Vanicream’s page, Amazon and the reviews that rank all print slightly different wording for this lotion. This review covers the 3 fl oz face lotion in a tube sold in the US today, not Vanicream Moisturizing Cream or the 2026 Enhanced Moisturizer (both compared below and in the questions), and every ingredient fact below comes from its current US list.

Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer ingredients: the full list, mapped
The full list, in Vanicream’s order: water, squalane, glycerin, pentylene glycol, polyglyceryl-2 stearate, glyceryl stearate, stearyl alcohol, hyaluronic acid, ceramide EOP, ceramide NG, ceramide NP, ceramide AS, ceramide AP, carnosine, hydrogenated lecithin, phytosterols, caprylyl glycol, polyacrylate crosspolymer-11, 1,2-hexanediol.
Vanicream names hyaluronic acid and its five ceramides as the key ingredients (Vanicream). Below, each ingredient in the order it is printed, colored by what it does, using Vanicream’s own ingredient glossary for the roles. New to reading a list? Start with our guide to reading an ingredients list.

Squalane and glycerin lead the list
After water, squalane comes 2nd and glycerin 3rd. Squalane is a saturated form of squalene, which makes up about 13% of human sebum, and its hydrating and emollient effects have been reported mostly in animal and lab studies (Kim and Karadeniz, 2012); Vanicream calls it an occlusive, an ingredient that slows water loss (Vanicream). Glycerin and hyaluronic acid, 8th, draw water into the skin. The list has no petrolatum or dimethicone; Vanicream’s Moisturizing Cream, which it calls “rich and heavy” (Vanicream), lists petrolatum 2nd (Vanicream).
Five ceramides, but no cholesterol or free fatty acid on the list
The ceramides EOP, NG, NP, AS and AP sit 9th to 13th, right after hyaluronic acid. In the barrier-repair studies behind ceramide creams, done mostly on mice, a single lipid or a pair delayed recovery, while a complete mix of ceramide, cholesterol and fatty acid allowed normal recovery (Man, 1993; Man, 1996). This list names no cholesterol and no free fatty acid. It has phytosterols, plant sterols related to cholesterol, 16th: in one study of human volunteers, a soy phytosterol formula helped tape-stripped skin recover better at three days than the same base without them (Puglia and Bonina, 2008), but we found no study of whether they stand in for cholesterol. No study we found tested this lotion against that idea, and the label cannot show how much ceramide there is.
“Preservative-free”: a claim Vanicream dropped
In the first archived copy of its page, from August 2020, Vanicream called the lotion “Preservative-free” (archived page). By January 2021 the word was gone and the list was the same (archived page). Vanicream’s own glossary says caprylyl glycol, 17th, and 1,2-hexanediol, 19th, inhibit microbial growth in the product, and that pentylene glycol, 4th, makes it more stable against microbes (Vanicream). The Cosmetic Ingredient Review, an industry-funded safety panel, notes that caprylyl glycol and pentylene glycol also work as cosmetic preservatives (CIR, 2012). What the lotion leaves out are the preservatives on Vanicream’s irritants page: parabens, formaldehyde releasers, and the two it files under “Irritating Preservatives”, methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone (Vanicream). A lotion with water needs something to keep microbes down; this one uses ingredients that do other jobs too.
What it leaves out
The list has no fragrance, drying alcohol, plant extracts or essential oils, no dyes or lanolin, and none of the preservatives on Vanicream’s irritants page. It also has no phenoxyethanol, which Vanicream’s irritants page lists among its fragrance examples (Vanicream). The only entry named an alcohol, stearyl alcohol, 7th, is a waxy fatty alcohol, not the drying kind. Carnosine, 14th, is an antioxidant and chelator for the product, in Vanicream’s words. It has no niacinamide, retinoid or sunscreen: it is a plain moisturizer.
Did Vanicream change the formula?
Not on the list. Every archived copy of Vanicream’s page we read, from the first in August 2020 (archived page) to July 2026 (archived page), prints the same 19 ingredients in the same order. The one edit: “purified water” became “water” in November 2024 (archived page). Amazon still prints the old word (Amazon).
But some 2026 tubes felt different. In February 2026 an r/SkincareAddiction user posted that a new tube had the same list but was “more opaque and thicker”, and itched (thread). The poster says Vanicream told them “They did not reformulate”, checked the batch code, sent a new tube and asked for the old one back to test it; their update says batch 7878B was “much thicker than normal” and puts the replacement “somewhere between the 7658B and 7878B” (update). Another user wrote in the same thread in July 2026 that a new tube was “more white, thick, and opaque” and that Vanicream again said the formula had not changed (thread). In the threads we read, 17 reports, from 15 people, describe or suspect a batch that looked, felt or smelled different. We found no public statement from Vanicream about it, and a list cannot show a change of supplier, process or batch.
Two other changes are not formula changes. The tube and box got a new look, which Vanicream describes as “New Look, Same Vanicream” (Vanicream). And in early 2026 Vanicream launched a separate Enhanced Moisturizer (below). If your tube looks, feels or smells different from the last one, contact Vanicream with the batch code printed on it, as these users did.
Sensitive, acne-prone or rosacea skin: what to know
Vanicream makes this lotion for sensitive skin and leaves out the irritants it lists. That lowers the odds of a reaction; it does not rule one out. Four things to know first:
- Stinging comes up often on Reddit. 53 reports in the Reddit threads we read describe itching, stinging or burning, and 19 redness or flushing. The label cannot say why. An allergy is possible: pentylene glycol, 4th here, is called a weak irritant and a weak allergen in a 2022 case report that found few published cases, most on the face (Corazza, 2022).
- For rosacea, the AAD prefers a cream. This lotion fits its advice to choose fragrance-free products made for sensitive skin and labeled non-comedogenic, but the AAD also says to choose a cream instead of a lotion or gel (AAD).
- “Non-comedogenic” is Vanicream’s word. The AAD reads it as “unlikely to cause acne”; the FDA has no list of approved cosmetic claims (FDA), and we found no published pore test of this lotion. Breakouts were the top complaint in the Reddit threads we read, with 56 reports, 32 of them in threads started by people who had a problem with it.
- Test it first. The AAD suggests a quarter-sized patch on the inside of your arm every day for 7 to 10 days.
Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer vs CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion
Both are fragrance-free drugstore face lotions with ceramides and a form of hyaluronic acid; the rest of their lists differ:
| Label fact | Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer | CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion |
|---|---|---|
| What the brand says it is for | Sensitive skin, all skin types, day or night | All skin types, at night (“PM Only”) |
| In the brand’s words | “A rich, but lightweight lotion” | “Ultra-lightweight night cream” |
| Ingredients | 19 | 24 |
| Ceramides | Five, no cholesterol | Three, with cholesterol |
| Niacinamide | Not listed | Listed, 4th of 24 |
| Squalane | Listed, 2nd of 19 | Not listed |
| Hyaluronic acid | As hyaluronic acid, 8th of 19 | As sodium hyaluronate, 15th of 24 |
| Dimethicone | Not listed | Listed, 11th of 24 |
| Phenoxyethanol | Not listed | Listed, 17th of 24 |
| Added fragrance | None listed | None listed |
| Where to buy |
A place on one list is not an amount, and it cannot be compared with a place on another. Both lists are read from the brands’ US sites (Vanicream, CeraVe). We found no trial that compares the two.
Which should you buy? If you want niacinamide and cholesterol with your ceramides, CeraVe PM; CeraVe makes it for night. For the shorter list, with squalane and without phenoxyethanol or dimethicone, for day and night, Vanicream.
Daily Facial Moisturizer vs Vanicream Enhanced Moisturizer
Enhanced Moisturizer is Vanicream’s new lotion of 2026 (Vanicream), sold in a 12 fl oz pump. Vanicream says the two “are not the same formula”: Enhanced is “ideal for the body”, and the Daily Facial is “designed for the face” (Vanicream). Here are the two lists side by side:
| Label fact | Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer | Vanicream Enhanced Moisturizer |
|---|---|---|
| What Vanicream says it is for | Sensitive skin, all skin types, day or night | Sensitive skin, “ideal for the body”, face too |
| In Vanicream’s words | “A rich, but lightweight lotion” | “More closely resembles a lotion” |
| Pack | 3 fl oz (89 mL) tube | 12 fl oz (355 mL) pump bottle |
| Ingredients | 19, 15 of them in both | 21, 15 of them in both |
| Only in this one | Squalane, pentylene glycol, hyaluronic acid and carnosine | C32-54 isoalkane, c12-18 alkanoyl glycerin/sebacic acid copolymer, dimethicone, hydrogenated starch hydrolysate, sucrose laurate and sodium hyaluronate |
| The same five ceramides | 9th to 13th | 8th to 12th |
| Squalane | Listed, 2nd of 19 | Not listed |
| Dimethicone | Not listed | Listed, 5th of 21 |
| Added fragrance | None listed | None listed |
| Where to buy |
A place on one list is not an amount, and it cannot be compared with a place on another: the ceramides sitting a place earlier on Enhanced says nothing about how much either holds. Both lists are read from Vanicream’s US site (Daily Facial, Enhanced); the size is on Amazon’s listing.
Vanicream says Enhanced is “clinically proven to deliver 24-hour hydration” (Vanicream); we found no published study of it. On Reddit, the user who started a 2026 thread about Enhanced wrote that their skin hates the Daily Facial and that, on day one, they loved Enhanced (thread), while an r/Rosacea user said Enhanced gave them the same redness (thread).
Which should you buy? For the face, the Daily Facial, as Vanicream intends. For face and body from one bottle, or if squalane does not suit you, Enhanced.
Does Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer work? What the evidence shows
- No study of the lotion itself. We searched PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov and found no published study or registered trial of this moisturizer. Vanicream calls it dermatologist tested and publishes no results on its page (Vanicream).
- Its key ingredients are the ones dermatologists name. The AAD says to look for ceramides and hyaluronic acid and to avoid fragrance; this list does all three.
- In mice, ceramides worked best with partners. Ceramides alone or in pairs slowed barrier repair, and a complete mix with cholesterol and fatty acid allowed normal repair (Man, 1993; Man, 1996). This list has the ceramides and plant sterols but names neither partner.
- The rest is small or indirect. Phytosterols helped barrier recovery in one human study of a soy phytosterol formula (Puglia and Bonina, 2008); squalane’s hydrating effects come mostly from animal and lab work (Kim and Karadeniz, 2012).
Bottom line: on paper, a well-chosen plain moisturizer, with the ingredients dermatologists name and without the common irritants. We found no study showing how well this lotion itself works.
What the label can’t tell you
- How much ceramide there is. Vanicream gives no amounts, and nothing on the list marks the 1% line.
- Whether the plant sterols stand in for cholesterol. No study we found tested that.
- Whether your batch matches the last one. The 2026 texture reports came with an unchanged list.
- How it will feel on your skin. We did not test it on skin. What people who used it say is below.
Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer reviews on Reddit
We read all 772 readable comments in the 13 Reddit threads Google ranks for this lotion, from 2020 to October 2026, and scored the 235 first-hand reports, from 227 people: 75 said it worked, 38 were mixed, 113 said it did not and 9 gave no verdict. Five of the threads were started by people who had a problem with it, and they hold 92 of the reports, 58 of them negative, so the totals show what people raise, not how often it happens. Outside those five, 64 said it worked and 55 said it did not. In the largest thread, which asked for positive or negative experiences, 42 said it worked, 18 were mixed and 47 said it did not (2026 thread). Opinions are not evidence, but they show what people run into:
- Breakouts were the top complaint. 56 reports describe breakouts or clogged pores, 32 of them in the problem threads, one of “deep, painful nodule acne” (2026 thread), while 9 said it did not break them out or clog their pores: “It’s one of the only moisturizers that doesn’t break me out!” (2024 thread).
- Stinging and redness. 53 reports describe itching, stinging or burning (“It burned so bad I couldn’t use it”, 2026 thread), and 19 redness or flushing. In an r/Rosacea thread started about it making flushing worse, 10 of 12 reports were negative: “My cheeks would always get red when I applied it at night!” (2026 thread).
- Too heavy for some, too light for others. 23 reports call it heavy or greasy (“I have oily skin and this is very heavy for me”, 2026 thread), and 27 say it was not moisturizing enough or left their skin dry: “I really love it, but it is just not quite hydrating enough on it’s own” (2026 thread).
- Relief for some. 10 reports say it helped their dry skin, one writing “Vanicream completely changed my skin and helped repair my skin barrier” (2026 thread), and 4 people with eczema liked it or said it did not irritate their skin.
- Batches, layering, price. 17 reports describe or suspect a batch that felt different (above), 9 mention pilling, peeling or trouble layering it under sunscreen, makeup or other products, and 13 mention the price, 10 of them as a plus; 9 comment on the tube, its size or its packaging.
How to use Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer
- Right after washing, on damp skin. The AAD says to apply moisturizer immediately, while skin is still damp; that traps water in the skin (AAD). If it stings, the AAD’s rosacea advice is the reverse: wait for your face to dry first, since moisturizer on dry skin is less likely to burn or sting (AAD).
- Morning and night, as Vanicream suggests: after a serum, before sunscreen and makeup (Vanicream). Our skincare order guide has the full routine.
- A thin layer, especially under sunscreen or makeup; two Reddit users tied pilling to using too much at once.
- Sunscreen on top in the morning, since it has no SPF, or Vanicream’s Facial Moisturizer SPF 30, which lists the same five ceramides with zinc oxide.
- With a drying retinoid, moisturize first: right after washing, then the retinoid 20 to 30 minutes later, as the AAD suggests.
- Test it first if your skin reacts easily: on the inside of your arm for 7 to 10 days (AAD). If it stings or burns on your face, stop.

How we reviewed it, and why you can trust it
We read the US ingredient list on Vanicream’s website, archived versions of the page from 2020 to 2026, Vanicream’s ingredient glossary and irritants page, the Amazon and Target listings, and the US lists of CeraVe PM and Vanicream’s Enhanced Moisturizer. We searched PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov for any study of the lotion, read the reviews that rank on Google’s first page, 772 Reddit comments through an archive, and the AAD, NEA and FDA pages behind each answer.
- Every ingredient position, count and flag from today’s US lists is generated from them, not typed by hand.
- Every health claim links to its source, and studies paid for by a brand or an industry group say so.
- Vanicream did not pay for this review or send us a product, and commission never decides what we say.
- We did not test it on skin, so there is no star rating.

Questions people ask
Is Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer good?
On its label, yes, for a plain moisturizer. It lists ceramides and hyaluronic acid, two of the ingredients the AAD says to look for, with squalane and glycerin, and no fragrance, drying alcohol, plant extracts, parabens or phenoxyethanol. It is the best overall pick in our face moisturizer guide. But we found no published study of it, we did not test it on skin, and on Reddit opinions split: outside five threads started by people who had a problem with it, 64 reports said it worked and 55 said it did not, with breakouts and stinging the top complaints.
What are the ingredients in Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer?
19: water, squalane, glycerin, pentylene glycol, polyglyceryl-2 stearate, glyceryl stearate, stearyl alcohol, hyaluronic acid, ceramide EOP, ceramide NG, ceramide NP, ceramide AS, ceramide AP, carnosine, hydrogenated lecithin, phytosterols, caprylyl glycol, polyacrylate crosspolymer-11, 1,2-hexanediol. Vanicream names hyaluronic acid and its five ceramides as the key ones (Vanicream). Squalane is 2nd, glycerin 3rd, hyaluronic acid 8th and the ceramides 9th to 13th. A place on the list is not an amount; the label map colors each one by what it does.
Is Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer good for sensitive skin?
It is made for it: Vanicream leaves out fragrance, dyes, lanolin, parabens, formaldehyde releasers and botanical extracts, among the irritants it lists on its own pages (Vanicream), and the list has none of them. That lowers the odds of a reaction but cannot rule one out. In the Reddit threads we read, 53 reports describe itching, stinging or burning. Test it on a small patch first, as the AAD suggests for sensitive skin.
Is Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer good for oily or acne-prone skin?
It can be. Vanicream says it suits all skin types, oily included, and is non-comedogenic (Vanicream), and the AAD says a moisturizer helps skin tolerate drying acne treatments. On Reddit, breakouts were the top complaint, with 56 reports; 9 people said it did not break them out or clog their pores, and 23 reports found it too heavy or greasy. Its second ingredient, squalane, is an oily emollient. If your skin is very oily, try a small amount first.
Does Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer clog pores?
Vanicream says it is non-comedogenic and “won’t clog pores” (Vanicream). The AAD reads that word on a label as “unlikely to cause acne”, but the FDA has no list of approved cosmetic claims (FDA), we found no FDA definition of it, and we found no published pore-clogging test of this lotion. Breakouts were the complaint we saw most on Reddit, many of them in threads started by people who had a problem with it. If you break out after starting it, stop and see whether your skin clears.
Is Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer safe for fungal acne?
We found no evidence either way. Ingredient checkers disagree: one calls it safe for Malassezia (fungal acne), another flags its stearates, and neither cites a test. The list has glyceryl stearate (6th) and polyglyceryl-2 stearate (5th), both esters of a fatty acid, and a review co-written by an employee of the ingredient maker Symrise says lipids on the skin may either feed or slow Malassezia, calling their effect hardly studied (Mayser and Koch, 2021). If you have fungal acne, ask a dermatologist.
Why does Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer burn?
The label cannot say, and neither can we. 53 reports in the Reddit threads we read describe itching, stinging or burning; one user wrote it “only burned the first time I applied” (2026 thread). The AAD notes that to some people everything they apply seems to sting, and suggests testing products first. An allergy is possible: pentylene glycol, 4th here, is called a weak irritant and weak allergen in a 2022 case report that counted few published cases (Corazza, 2022). If it burns, stop; a dermatologist can patch test to find the cause.
Is Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer good for rosacea?
It fits most of the AAD’s advice: fragrance-free, made for sensitive skin and non-comedogenic. But the AAD also says to choose a cream instead of a lotion or gel, and Vanicream calls this a lotion. In a 2026 r/Rosacea thread about it making flushing worse, 10 of the 12 first-hand reports were negative (thread). Test it on the inside of your arm for 7 to 10 days first, as the AAD suggests.
Is Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer good for eczema?
It is accepted by the National Eczema Association (NEA), which means it passed the NEA’s ingredient screen and safety review; brands pay to apply, and the criteria list safety tests, not tests that it works (NEA, fees). The AAD advises a fragrance-free cream or ointment rather than a lotion for eczema, so on very dry patches, a thicker cream such as Vanicream Moisturizing Cream may suit you better.
Can I use Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer every day?
Yes. Vanicream says it can be used twice a day, morning and night, and its directions say “Apply as needed day or night” (Vanicream). In the morning, put sunscreen on top: it has no SPF. Vanicream’s own suggestion for sun exposure is its Facial Moisturizer SPF 30.
Can I use Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer on my eyelids?
Vanicream’s page does not say: its directions cover the face, day or night, and mention neither the eyelids nor the eye area (Vanicream), and we found no study of it there. Keep it out of your eyes. If you try it on your eyelids and they itch, sting or turn red, stop and see a dermatologist.
Is Vanicream better than CeraVe?
It depends on what you want on the list; we found no trial that compares them. Against CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion, Vanicream’s list is shorter (19 against 24) and has squalane and five ceramides; CeraVe’s has niacinamide, three ceramides with cholesterol, dimethicone and phenoxyethanol. Neither lists fragrance. If you want niacinamide, CeraVe; for the shorter list without phenoxyethanol, Vanicream. The side-by-side has the rest.
Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer or Moisturizing Cream: which for the face?
For most faces, the Daily Facial Moisturizer: Vanicream calls it a lightweight formula designed for the face, and calls its Moisturizing Cream “rich and heavy” (Vanicream). The cream lists 10 ingredients with petrolatum 2nd and no ceramides, glycerin or hyaluronic acid (Vanicream). For very dry skin, or as a last layer at night, the cream; it is our best for very dry, sensitive skin.
What is the difference between Vanicream Daily Facial and Enhanced Moisturizer?
Enhanced, new in 2026, is a 12 fl oz pump lotion Vanicream calls “ideal for the body”, though it can go on the face (Vanicream). The two share 15 ingredients, the same five ceramides among them. Only the Daily Facial lists squalane, pentylene glycol, hyaluronic acid and carnosine; Enhanced has dimethicone and sodium hyaluronate instead, among others. See the comparison.
Did Vanicream reformulate the Daily Facial Moisturizer?
Not on the list. Vanicream’s page shows the same 19 ingredients in every archived copy from the first, in August 2020, to July 2026; only “purified water” became “water” in November 2024 (2020, 2024). In 2026, some buyers reported thicker, more opaque tubes, and say Vanicream told them it had not reformulated (thread). We found no public statement from Vanicream; the details are below.
Is Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer preservative-free?
Vanicream’s page said so in 2020 (archived page) and stopped by January 2021 (archived page), with no change to the list. Vanicream’s own glossary says caprylyl glycol and 1,2-hexanediol inhibit microbial growth in the product (Vanicream). What it leaves out are the preservatives on Vanicream’s irritants page: parabens, formaldehyde releasers and two isothiazolinones (Vanicream).
Is Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer oil-free?
Vanicream does not call it oil-free, and squalane, its second ingredient, is an oily emollient Vanicream lists as an occlusive (Vanicream). Ingredient checkers disagree on whether to call it oil-free. It has no plant oils, and Vanicream calls it non-greasy.
Does Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer contain alcohol?
Not the drying kind. The only entry named an alcohol, stearyl alcohol (7th), is a waxy fatty alcohol that thickens and softens. On a US label, “alcohol” on its own means ethanol (FDA), and this list has none.
Do dermatologists recommend Vanicream?
Vanicream says so: its Amazon listing calls it the “#1 Dermatologist Recommended Brand for Sensitive Skin” with an asterisk whose footnote is not on the page (Amazon), and we could not confirm the survey behind it. The AAD pages we read name no brands; their advice for a moisturizer is to look for ceramides and hyaluronic acid and avoid fragrance (AAD), which this list follows.
Can I use Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer with retinol or tretinoin?
Yes. The AAD says a daily moisturizer helps skin tolerate drying treatments such as retinoids, and, if a retinoid dries you out, suggests moisturizer right after washing with the retinoid 20 to 30 minutes later (AAD). We found no study of this lotion with a retinoid. For a retinoid to pair it with, see our retinol guide.
Is the Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer on Amazon the current formula?
The listing our buttons open is sold by Amazon.com and prints the same 19 ingredients, starting “purified water”, the wording Vanicream’s page used until November 2024 (Amazon). The other 18 match Vanicream’s list today.
Does Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer expire?
Eventually, though Vanicream’s page gives no shelf life. No US law requires a cosmetic expiration date; the FDA leaves shelf life to the maker and says products can break down with time and heat (FDA). The tube keeps fingers out of the lotion. If yours changes color or smell, or stings when it did not before, replace it.
